The Boundary is a restaurant located within the Middleton Sports Club in West Sussex, specializing in dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant’s management team reached out to me to revamp their current website, which was originally created on the Wix platform. They felt that the existing site did not effectively convey the quality dining experience they offer and felt a new website would solve this problem.
The objectives for this website redesign project were comprehensive and targeted multiple areas for improvement. Firstly, the restaurant aimed to make its menu not just easily accessible, but also easy to understand, across various devices including smartphones and tablets. Secondly, they wanted to offer a feature where visitors could effortlessly sign up to receive promotional updates and news. Thirdly, the restaurant sought to highlight and advertise upcoming events, as well as additional private dining services. Ultimately, the main goal was to develop a website that was not only visually appealing but also functional, serving as an effective platform for customer engagement and business expansion.
The project’s key features were carefully chosen to meet the client’s specific needs. These included a dynamically responsive menu that adjusts to fit different screen sizes, making it easier to view on a range of devices. Additionally, Mailchimp was integrated into the site to manage newsletter subscriptions efficiently. For an enhanced interactive experience, a custom animated GSAP flyout menu was also implemented. Each of these features was carefully designed to not only improve the website’s overall usability but also to elevate its visual appeal.
The main challenge was to design a menu that was easy to understand, particularly on mobile devices. To achieve this, I implemented interactive tabs to display menu items based on the service type—lunch, dinner, and Sunday dining. Users can click on each tab to easily see what food is available for each service type. This interactive approach made the menu more user-friendly and helped to improve the overall user experience.
The redesigned website has been a resounding success. Its modern, clean design and user-friendly interface have received positive feedback. The Mailchimp integration has significantly increased newsletter subscriptions, allowing The Boundary to engage more effectively with its customer base. Overall, the new website has not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations, positioning The Boundary as a modern, customer-focused restaurant.
